Battle of the Latin Clubs

 

 

 

Official Rules, Regulations & Fees

 

 

 

 

 

I. GENERAL OVERVIEW

 

 

Battle of the Latin Clubs is an official Latin-dance competition rooted in salsa club culture and expanded to celebrate all Latin dance styles. This competition is by the students, for the students, emphasizing creativity, leadership, teamwork, and authenticity. There will also be levels novice and int/adv . Once we register your school the next step is inputting all details in podium our scoring system. Music and routines will be entered there . 
 

Deadline to do registration form is jan 31 2026 

Payments will be recieved in February making Feb 20 the cut off for routine payments ! 

 

 

 

 

II. ROUTINE REQUIREMENTS

 

 

 

1. Mandatory Salsa Requirement

 

 

  • Because this competition stems from an official salsa club, every school is required to compete with at least one (1) salsa routine.

  • This is non-negotiable and required for participation.

 

 

 

2. Number of Routines Allowed

 

 

  • Each school may compete in up to two (2) group routines under the flat registration fee:

    • One (1) salsa routine (required)

    • One (1) additional routine of any other Latin style

  •  

  • Additional routines are allowed for an extra fee (see Fees section).

 

 

 

 

 

III. COMPETITION CATEGORIES

 

 

All routines will be placed into one of the following style categories:

 

 

Style Categories

 

 

  1. Salsa

  2. Bachata

  3. Open Latin

    • Includes (but not limited to):
      Merengue, Cubatón, Reggaetón, Latin Fusion, or any Latin-based style

  4.  

 

 

 

 

 

IV. ROUTINE FORMATS

 

 

Within each style category, routines may fall into the following formats:

 

 

Group Types

 

 

  • All-Ladies

  • Couples

  • Small Group

  • Large Group

 

 

 

Solo & Duet Divisions

 

 

  • Solos and Duets are allowed in any Latin genre

  • Solos compete only against other solos

  • Duets compete only against other duets

  • Solos and duets must still select a style category (Salsa, Bachata, or Open Latin)

 

 

 

 

 

V. GROUP SIZE & TIME LIMITS

 

 

 

Small Groups

 

 

  • Up to 7–8 dancers

  • Maximum music time: 3:00 minutes

 

 

 

Large Groups

 

 

  • 9 dancers or more

  • Maximum music time: 4:30 minutes

 

 

⚠️ Exceeding time limits may result in point deductions.

 

 

 

 

VI. BATTLE ROUND & OVERALL CHAMPION

 

 

 

1. Competition Structure

 

 

The competition consists of two parts:

 

 

Part 1: Choreography Round

 

 

  • All registered routines compete in their assigned categories

  • Judged on technique, musicality, creativity, and execution

 

 

 

Part 2: Battle (Freestyle Round) – OPTIONAL

 

 

  • Schools may opt in to participate

  • Must be declared at registration

  • Freestyle, battle-style performance

  • Judged separately from choreography

 

 

 

2. Overall Champion Eligibility

 

 

  • Only schools that participate in BOTH rounds are eligible for:

    • Overall 1st Place

    • Overall 2nd Place

    • Overall 3rd Place

  •  

  • Scores from:

    • Choreography Round

    • Battle Round
      are combined to determine overall placements

  •  

 

 

⚠️ Schools that do not participate in the battle:

 

  • Can still place in choreography categories

  • Are NOT eligible for overall awards

 

 

 

3. Battle Registration Fee

 

 

  • Participation in the battle requires an additional $25 registration fee

  • Fee covers additional judging and scoring

 

 

 

 

 

VII. CHOREOGRAPHY RULES (VERY IMPORTANT)

 

 

 

Student-Choreographed Requirement

 

 

  • All routines MUST be choreographed by students from the school

  • Paid choreographers are NOT allowed

 

 

 

Disqualification Policy

 

 

A routine will be automatically disqualified if:

 

  • A paid choreographer creates the routine

  • A non-student choreographs the routine

  • The choreographer is not performing in the routine

 

 

✔ Students may:

 

  • Train at studios or be part of dance companies
    ✖ But choreography must come from the students themselves, and the choreographer must be on stage

 

 

 

 

 

VIII. COSTUMES, PROPS & CREATIVITY

 

 

  • Costumes are allowed

  • Props are allowed

  • Creativity is highly encouraged

  • Choreography should reflect:

    • Latin culture

    • Musical interpretation

    • Team identity
